The capelin race

Atlantic cod follows Capelin!

Indeed, early in the season it is relatively easy to catch Atlantic cod that feeds on capelin. The latter approaches the coast to spawn, it is then said that the capelin ” rolls”. This phenomenon occurs only once a year, usually towards the end of June. Thousands of capelins voluntarily wash up on the beach during the high tide of full moon.

Subsequently the capelin takes off, the cod for its part returns to the bottom of the sea!

Be careful, fishing for Atlantic cod is prohibited during this time of year! Incidental catches must be returned to the sea.
